- Founded in 2016 by Samuel Wei and Daniel Gu, Motiv is an independent studio dedicated to creating clothing rooted in tradition yet designed for the future. Drawing from tailoring and workwear heritage, we reinterpret classic methods into garments that respond to the modern wearer and their environment. Every piece is crafted in-house by a small team in Beijing, where skilled craftspeople and specialized equipment to merge anatomical tailoring with industrial detail—something impossible to achieve in mass production.
Crafted from Halley Stevensons’ military-finish waxed cotton, this jacket uses 100% cotton fabric treated with the British mill’s latest coating technique. After a simple wash, the fabric develops a vintage patina reminiscent of mid-century garments, while retaining the water-repellent qualities of traditional waxed cotton. For this season, Halley Stevensons created a new high-contrast coating exclusively for us, enhancing the worn-in, mottled effect. Inspired by Soviet tanker jackets, the cropped silhouette features an adjustable drawstring hood with Canadian military-style rope fasteners, ergonomically cut raglan sleeves, a map pocket with an additional quick-access hidden pocket on the left front, and ribbed hand-warmer pockets designed to block wind.
