- Founded in 2016 by Samuel Wei and Daniel Gu, Motiv is an independent studio dedicated to creating clothing rooted in tradition yet designed for the future. Drawing from tailoring and workwear heritage, we reinterpret classic methods into garments that respond to the modern wearer and their environment. Every piece is crafted in-house by a small team in Beijing, where skilled craftspeople and specialized equipment to merge anatomical tailoring with industrial detail—something impossible to achieve in mass production.
The Torpedo Jacket takes inspiration from German U-boat jackets, crafted with two distinct heritage fabrics. Crafted in linen–wool corduroy, designed in collaboration with a Japanese textile designer and woven by one of China’s top linen mills, blending 62% linen and 38% wool to create a bold ribbed texture with natural elasticity, seam fullness, comfort, and warmth. Cut with a sharp, structured silhouette, the jacket features wide lapels reinforced with sine-wave stitching that can be flipped into a funnel collar, sleeves with gussets for ease of movement, and a drawstring waist for an adjustable fit.
