- This pair of button-zipper boots comes from the Katsuya Tokunaga Atelier Tokyo program. Katsuya Tokunaga, the founder of Rolling Dub Trio, oversees this irregularly released collection of leather products. Each piece is crafted using the finest materials, carefully sourced from around the world, with the goal of creating the ultimate in boots.

Inspired by a 1916 photograph of a child in New York wearing fabric button boots, the Boys model reimagines this historic footwear with both heritage and modern practicality in mind. While button boots are often associated with the slender elegance of Victorian women’s styles, by the 1910s they had evolved into more functional fashion items, and Boys draws on this history. Its slightly rounded, fuller silhouette echoes children’s footwear, while faithfully retaining the classic gentleman’s button boot details, including a straight vamp to the heel, punched cap toe, and leather sole.

To suit contemporary lifestyles, where daily wear of button boots is impractical, a YKK EXCELLA® zipper with a custom-covered pull is added — a thoughtful integration that enhances both function and aesthetics. Since its 2009 debut, the model has undergone refinements and, from 2025, is built to the highest standards: the upper uses robust yet lustrous box calf from Germany’s Weinheimer, the shaft is soft Italian Incas baby calf, and each pair is meticulously hand-finished by Asakusa dress shoe artisans. The sole, with a black lacquer and vermillion-red core inspired by traditional tea utensils, adds a final touch of elegance and made in Japan pride.
