LOT.601 TEE SHIRT "SUMI KIRA"

Made from U.S.-grown cotton, the fabric has a dry hand and authentic character. The jersey is knit on rare vintage loopwheel machines, introduced to Japan during the Taishō era and now found exclusively in Wakayama. Producing just one meter of fabric per hour, the slow knitting process creates a lofty jersey with natural irregularity, exceptional softness, and a texture that modern high-speed machines cannot replicate. The T-shirt retains the defining details of early American athletic wear, including a seamless tubular body, straight shoulders without slope, a boat-style neckline, and a double-layered rib collar designed to maintain its shape over years of wear.
Sumi Kira is special piece both in technique and concept. The effect treated with randomly applied mica to evoke the appearance of stains. Though historically impossible, this fictional design imagines an ukiyo-e artist wearing the t-shirt and accidentally staining it while working—a conceptual garment born from imagination rather than history.
Each t-shirt is garment-dyed using an ink-dyeing process that produces a deep charcoal-black tone with subtle tonal variation and a softly weathered appearance. The dye naturally settles along seams and across the textured surface of the loopwheel jersey, enhancing the fabric's organic character. It is then detailed with Taiga Takahashi's Kira paint treatment, creating a delicate mineral-like luster that catches the light.
