- Crafted from an original fabric woven at a historic mill in Japan’s Bishu region on vintage shuttle looms, this plain weave is made with extra-thick hemp yarns in both the warp and weft and woven at an exceptionally high density. Following weaving, the fabric is treated with a Nidom finishing process—a textile treatment that uses controlled shrinkage and mechanical action to create a soft, naturally aged, and richly textured surface. During this process, deliberate friction gently breaks down surface fibers, resulting in a smooth, subtly brushed hand feel. Though the fabric begins with a firm structure, the Nidom treatment transforms it into something far more organic—evolving over time into a material that resembles a well-worn vintage textile with natural depth, irregularity, and character.
