N.Hoolywood founder and creative director Daisuke Obana began his fashion career as a buyer and manager for a vintage clothing store in Tokyo before launching his own company in 2000. Drawing upon elements of classic military garments, American vintage sportswear, and traditional Japanese craftsmanship, Obana blends the worlds of modern subversion and casual refinement. Their clothes are well-known for their concept of taking old/retro fashion motifs, and adding modern twists to create “something truly different”; they also are often based on particular themes from each season to season. Softly structured silhouettes are rendered in technical materials and graphics tones, showcasing the label's unique directional approach to streetwear.
The label’s namesake is derived from a combination of the abbreviation for the word “North”, and a play on the words “Hollywood” and “hooligan”.
