- Founded in 2016 by Samuel Wei and Daniel Gu, Motiv is an independent studio dedicated to creating clothing rooted in tradition yet designed for the future. Drawing from tailoring and workwear heritage, we reinterpret classic methods into garments that respond to the modern wearer and their environment. Every piece is crafted in-house by a small team in Beijing, where skilled craftspeople and specialized equipment to merge anatomical tailoring with industrial detail—something impossible to achieve in mass production.

Crafted from 100% cotton herringbone denim developed by one of China’s top narrow-loom mills, this winter-weight fabric features speckled weft yarns that create a Donegal tweed-like effect. The brushed reverse adds softness and warmth, the Char Brown version uses sulfur-dyed warp yarns that gradually develop a rich patina with wear. Designed with an innovative integrated structure, the trousers employ a wrap construction that follows ergonomic leg lines. Side pocket openings align with pleats, rear pockets are seamlessly integrated into the yoke, and seams at the inseam, fly, and waistband are finished with bound edges. This style also marks Motiv's first use of rivets on denim.
