- Founded in 2016 by Samuel Wei and Daniel Gu, Motiv is an independent studio dedicated to creating clothing rooted in tradition yet designed for the future. Drawing from tailoring and workwear heritage, we reinterpret classic methods into garments that respond to the modern wearer and their environment. Every piece is crafted in-house by a small team in Beijing, where skilled craftspeople and specialized equipment to merge anatomical tailoring with industrial detail—something impossible to achieve in mass production.

Made from 100% cotton herringbone denim, this fabric is developed by one of China’s finest narrow-loom mills. Speckled weft yarns create a Donegal tweed-like effect, while the brushed reverse adds softness and warmth for winter wear. The Char Brown version uses sulfur-dyed warp yarns that develop a rich patina over time. Cut with straight outer seams and curved inner seams, the trousers form a Doric column-like silhouette. A refined waistband construction integrates belt loops, darts, and pleats into a clean design, while Motiv's signature folded fly and single-needle construction ensure precise shape and comfort.
