LOT.703 DENIM JACKET C.1920'S "RAW INDIGO"
Details:
- The 1920s denim jacket is one of T.T.’s iconic pieces. Taiga Takahashi favored denim from lesser-known “store-based brands,” particularly Foremost by J.C. Penney, which began producing denim in the 1920s by imitating established brands before developing their own styles. Takahashi collected these vintage denims, studying the design experiments that set them apart, and infused that creative spirit into his own original piece.
Woven from 100% American organic cotton in a 3/1 left-twill light-weight denim on a traditional shuttle loom in Okayama—twenty times slower than modern looms—the fabric retains the natural unevenness of the yarn for a textured, irregular surface. The indigo-dyed warp, mixed with sulfur, develops a green-cast, weathered look, while the rope-dyed weft uses slightly yellowed nep yarn to evoke a sense of age. Together, these yarns create Takahashi’s signature deep, rich indigo, finished with sanforization to prevent shrinkage.
The selvedge denim, with its white edge featured on the front facing and cuff reverses, is crafted into a simple jacket with a single patch pocket, front pleats stitched singly, and a flat silhouette with horizontally attached sleeves and flat shoulders. Buttons and rear hardware, engraved with original markings, are iron and left uncoated to develop a natural patina. Every detail faithfully replicates 1920s methods, while the signature leather patch is mud-dyed in Amami Oshima Island.
