LOT.704 DENIM TROUSERS C.1920'S "RAW INDIGO"
Details:
- The 1920s Denim Trousers are one of T.T.’s iconic pieces. Taiga Takahashi favored denim from lesser-known “store-based brands,” particularly Foremost by J.C. Penney, which began producing denim in the 1920s by imitating established brands before developing their own styles. Takahashi collected these vintage denims, studying the subtle design experiments that distinguished them, and recreated that creative spirit in his originals.
Woven from 100% American organic cotton on a traditional shuttle loom in Okayama, the 3/1 left-twill, light-weight denim retains the natural unevenness of the yarn for a textured, irregular surface. The warp is indigo-dyed with sulfur for a green-cast, weathered look, while rope-dyeing preserves the white core. The custom nep weft, dyed in a yellowed natural tone, enhances the sense of age. Combined, these yarns create Takahashi’s signature deep, rich indigo, finished with sanforization to prevent shrinkage. The fabric is selvedge denim, with the white edge featured in details like the reverse belt side.
These high-rise jeans feature a wide, straight silhouette from thigh to hem, retaining period-accurate details such as rounded front pockets and a buckle-back. Buttons and rear hardware, engraved with original markings, are iron and left uncoated to develop natural patina over time. Every detail faithfully follows 1920s methods, with the signature leather patch mud-dyed in Amami Oshima Island.
